Etymology of the name of the country: The land of Bhotia. The inhabitants of Tibet or Bhotia migrated from Tibet to Bhutan in the 10th century. The common root is 'bod', the ancient name of Tibet. The second unofficial name is Druk-Yul, which means 'land of a thunder dragon', 'land of thunder' or 'earth of a dragon'.
