Vulgata
Vulgata (V)
405Переводчик, редактор ...: Jerome of Stridon
Jerome of Stridon, at the request of Pope Damasus I, collected and translated existing Hebrew, Aramaic, Latin and Greek manuscripts to create the Latin Bible. The content is close to the Masoretic text, yet Jerome used a now unknown Hebrew text to translate it.
Augustine claimed that Jerome used a Hebrew text instead of the Septuagint to translate the NT.
Some in the Early Church regarded the Septuagint as the divinely inspired translation.Since the 16th century, the Vulgate has been the official Latin Bible of the Catholic Church.
