VideocodecsCodec This is a method of compressing video or audio information to the most compact size, otherwise the video file will not fit into any computer. The codec encodes and decodes the signal, because it is necessary for listening - viewing a file compressed by such a codec. Most codecs for audio and visual data use lossy compression to get an acceptable size of the finished (compressed) file. There are also codecs that compress without loss (English lossless codecs). But for most applications, codecs with loss of information are more advantageous, since a noticeable deterioration in quality is justified by a significant reduction in the amount of data. Almost the only exception is the situation when the data will be subjected to further processing: in this case, repeated encoding / decoding losses will have a serious impact on the quality.
