New computers support thousands and millions of colors, but many older systems can only display 256 colors at a time. Therefore, browsers for them work only with colors of a fixed palette. Usually this gives the effect of color spots, because the browser tries to replace the colors close to them at each point of the image. This problem will gradually resolve itself as the old computers are replaced with new ones.
